A day that threatened to be a washout transitioned into perfect weather for the concours at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. Ferrari was the featured marque this year, and Best in Show was awarded to an exceptionally well-restored 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, finished in Nocciola Metallizzato (Hazelnut Metallic). One of my clients, who had recently purchased a 1979 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino in Modena, Italy, entered his car in the concours—his first-ever concours entry. The Ferrari, a striking shade of metallic blue, was awarded third in class, behind the Best in Show winner and another 275 GTB.
An entry that truly exemplified the original 1930s concours spirit was a light blue 1935 Packard Super 8 Sedan. The owner's daughter was dressed in a color-coordinated outfit that perfectly complemented the Packard’s finish.
The green 1935 LaSalle Series 50 Convertible—the “Junior Cadillac”—hailed from the same GM division that launched Harley Earl’s career as a leading automotive designer. The 1935 Chrysler C6 Airstream Convertible was a study in Art Deco design, right down to its unique instrumentation.
The oldest car on the field was a 1908 Mitchell Runabout, purchased by the current owner’s father and grandfather in 1939 for just $25.
